Announcing: OnSIP Developer Forum

As you may know, we have built two API's for our services:

  1. REST API - OnSIP phone service and administrative functions
  2. XMPP API - my.OnSIP functions, including presence

Our hope is that as VoIP moves more mainstream, there will be an increasing demand for telephony app development. Our software engineers have spent years connecting the dots between dated Telco infrastructure, SIP, varying IP phone hardware, and several programming languages. Having this experience, we aim to provide a platform wherein users can abstract away the telephony layer and focus on building new, innovative software on top of it.

Actually, we've had this API going for some time - because we use it. But, in our busy world of providing new features and support for OnSIP, it's safe to say it's not 100% documented. And, it probably won't be for some time.

In fact, we had a meeting about what to do yesterday. How can we encourage developers to use our awesome, but partly undocumented, tools? What we came up with is a pretty simple, common-sense approach. It's what we lovingly coin "The Lazy Documentation Method."

Basically, we've created a forum for developers to collaborate and ask questions. As questions are asked, our software engineers will document the necessary items and place a forum response with an explanation and references. So, we aim to light the path to our API one step at a time, but in the time that you need it. And, with that, you will get some direct input on your new ventures from our software engineers.

Check out our API's and our forum!
