2012 Preparedness Guide: Do Zombies have SIP Addresses?
By Matt Barrett and Eden Harvest
There has been some talk lately that the end of the Mayan calendar will trigger the apocalypse, an event that may or may not destroy all life on planet Earth. That is exactly one year from now. I'll admit, it sounds bad. What could be worse than the end of a planet we've come to know and love? I'll tell you what: the inability of your VoIP provider to administer reliable service on the same day.
Thankfully with OnSIP, this will never happen. Rest assured that your OnSIP hosted PBX will be up and running even as the Four Horsemen find their way into your hometown. Most practical thinkers don't really believe that the world will end, but there is a general agreement that there will be zombies: this Center for Disease COntrol and Prevention webpage provides a Zombie Apocalypse Survival Guide. Good advice: It’s better to be safe than sorry.
At OnSIP, we share the sentiment: It's better to be equipped with a reliable VoIP provider than to be mauled by zombies. We currently have three redundant data centers, two in New York City and one in Los Angeles. These data centers are generally unaffected by local disturbances. This is why we recommend a hosted PBX rather than an on-premise solution. Our CEO, Mike Oeth discusses a hosted PBX's superior ability to keep you safe during a zombie onslaught. So even as the undead chew through your local telephone lines, your OnSIP hosted PBX will continue to provide reliable service.
Now say, for instance, that a zombie chases you out of your house or workplace, and you're forced to leave your OnSIP-registered phone behind. What do you do? Curl up in a ball and wait for the world to end? Heck no! With OnSIP, you can use your cellphone, or any phone, to check your voicemails. See Mike Steiner’s blog. If someone has crafted a zombie-proof bunker and has left you a voicemail regarding its whereabouts, you can easily listen to your recordings, which should save your life (until the bunker runs out of food).
Finally, if you're a person who likes to plan ahead, we offer a call forwarding feature, which is detailed extensively in our knowledgebase. On this page, we provide simple configuration details for you to forward all calls to an outside phone number. Anyone trying to call you will be redirected to this outside number, i.e. your cell phone, and you'll be able to strategize how to survive and/or say your final goodbyes.
This, of course, will only spare those who have thought far enough ahead about 2012, and who've faithfully read our blogs. Who knows? Perhaps the zombies won't attack in large numbers or will be limited to Australia. I believe the Mayans will be proven wrong. Either way, OnSIP's redundancy, call forwarding, and remote configuration options will keep you connected. Happy New Year!
