8 Ways the OnSIP Mobile App Will Help You During Your Workday

by Joe DeBari

The features of the OnSIP mobile app—voicemail, call handling, SMS, video, and more—give you everything you need to stay connected from anywhere.

Calls, texts, voicemail, video—your entire business phone, available right in your pocket. The OnSIP mobile app turns your iPhone or Android device into a full extension of your hosted VoIP phone system. Here’s a look at eight app features that will keep you just as productive and responsive on the go as you are at your desk.

OnSIP Mobile App Features Built for the Way You Work

1. Check Voicemail Without Dialing In

Forget voicemail PINs and phone-tree menus. The Voicemail tab at the bottom of the app screen displays every message, new and saved, in one scrollable list that’s sorted by date. Unheard messages are marked, so you know with a quick glance what still needs your attention.

Tap a message to play it back, click-to-call the person right back, or delete it. Note that if you have SMS enabled on your account, the Voicemail section will be found at the top of your Home screen.

2. Text Clients and Sales Leads Right from the App

If your account uses the business SMS feature, SMS messaging is built right into the app interface. The Messages tab is found at the bottom of your screen, and new texts show up with the same at-a-glance indicators you'll see with new voicemails—notifications that you can't miss.

Tap in to send and receive SMS and MMS texts from your business phone number, without switching to a separate messaging app or handing out your personal cell number. It's one more way the app consolidates your business communications into a single place.

3. All the Call Controls You Need, One Tap Away

Once you're on a call, the app gives you the same call handling controls you'd expect on a desk phone, without having to dig through menus to find them. Mute your mic, pull up the keypad to enter an extension, phone menu option, or conference PIN, or switch over to speakerphone, all with a single tap.

Need to send the call to someone else? Transfer the call to a coworker's extension right from the active call screen. Every phone call control you need stays visible and front-and-center for as long as you're on the line.

4. Build a Favorites List to Save You Time

Searching and scrolling through a long contact list to find the same five people you call every day gets old fast. Your Favorites list fixes that: it's the quickest route to the people you talk to most. Add coworkers or outside contacts there, and they'll show up sorted and first in line. To add someone, open their contact card and tap the Favorite star. From then on, calling them takes one tap instead of a search through your full directory.

5. Touchscreen Navigation of Your Business Phone

If you know how to use a smartphone, you already know how to use the OnSIP mobile app. Search (or scroll through) an alphabetized directory of contacts instead of pressing digits into a keypad. Tap on the Home tab to see recent call history and redial callers with a tap. Add in personal contacts like family members, your kid's school, or your dentist right alongside your work contacts.

iPhone users get an extra shortcut: open any contact in your native Phone app, long-press the call icon, and choose OnSIP to place the call through your OnSIP business line instead of your personal number.

Need some time to focus on a work task? Flip on Do not disturb in the More tab and your mobile app goes silent while your desk phone and desktop app keep ringing as usual when an inbound call arrives.

6. Video Calling: Get Face-to-Face Without Leaving the App

Video call your contacts in the app when you need to have a richer and more personalized conversation than a plain old telephone call can offer. If the person you're calling is on a video-enabled device, starting a video call is just as easy as a voice call: pull up their contact card and tap the video camera button there.

7. Click-to-Call Anyone with a Single Tap

No phone numbers to remember. No extensions to look up. Simply find a contact in your Directory or Favorites lists, tap their name, then tap on the phone button for a voice call (or the video camera button for a video call, as mentioned above). That's the whole calling process, whether you're reaching out to a coworker, a client, or a personal contact you've added into the app.

8. Work Comfortably, Day or Night

The app follows your device's display settings, so if your phone is set to dark mode, the OnSIP mobile app switches right along with it. It's a small detail, but one your eyes will thank you for during those early-morning or late-night calls.
