Is Your Service HD Voice Ready?

OnSIP HD Voice Offerings now include HD Conferencing

Currently, OnSIP supports HD voice between any two HD capable phones*. Both on network calls and calls to off network HD devices are delivered in crystal clear quality.

With the addition of High Definition Conferencing to our suite of OnSIP features, we are taking strides to ensure that OnSIP is the most comprehensive HD voice service in the industry.

HD voice service goes above and beyond the voice quality of any traditional PSTN network. Legacy telephone systems sample the sound stream at around 8000 times per second using 8-bit coding, which means that the sound spectrum is limited to 200 Hz on the low end to 3.3kHz on the high end. With HD voice or a wideband codec, the sampling rate is doubled to 16,000 times per sec using 14-bit coding. The width of the sound spectrum is more than doubled, meaning callers get all the nuances in their conversations that they may have missed otherwise.

The benefits for business are numerous. HD voice allows users to hold conversations as if they were sitting right across the table from each other. The productivity increases when callers are able to hold fluid conversations without ever having to ask each other to repeat a statement are huge. HD voice also greatly benefits businesses that work with foreign speakers, allowing callers to catch the inflections and tones that help fill in the blanks. In an HD conference call, users can actually clearly identify who is talking, avoiding any unnecessary confusion.

Recently, several other VoIP service providers have announced that they are supporting HD voice in one form or another. We’re happy to see the industry progressing and we hope that a more widespread knowledge of the benefits of HD voice will compel businesses to switch to VoIP services.

But are these other service providers truly HD Voice ready?

While other providers have limitations on what HD capable phones their clients can use to get HD voice service, OnSIP does not. With OnSIP, a customer can call his client’s Polycom IP phone from his Aastra phone and still have an HD call. In fact, OnSIP customers can bring any HD capable phone and they will be able to get their calls in HD. It’s as simple as that. There are few other service providers that offer HD conferencing. With OnSIP conference offerings, it does not matter what phone you are using as long as it supports HD. If a user happens to be on a Polycom, he can have an HD conference call with his coworker on her Cisco and their clients on their Aastra phones.
