We're excited to attend FreeSWITCH's 10th Annual ClueCon conference next week (Aug. 4-7), the yearly telephony and VoIP convention that attracts leading developers interested in telecommunications. Following last year's presentation, OnSIP CTO John Riordan will present once again at 11 am CDT on August 5th at the Intercontinental Chicago Hotel.

This time around, John will discuss how to design and implement WebRTC and SIP-based applications, an issue we've tackled in the past year with InstaCall, The OnSIP Network, and SIP.js This is the fourth stop on OnSIP's "WebRTC Events Tour" this summer.

ClueCon was founded in 2005 by the FreeSWITCH core developer team for open source leaders to come together to find new possibilities for existing Internet Telephony options. FreeSWITCH offers developers an open source solution for the creation of voice and messaging products. Libfreeswitch, FreeSWITCH's core library, is able to be embedded into other projects or can be used as a stand-alone application.

“The FreeSWITCH team is excited to have OnSIP involved in this year's ClueCon,” said Anthony Minessale, Director of Engineering CudaTEL at Barracuda Networks and Author of FreeSWITCH. “We've worked very closely with the engineers from OnSIP over the years, and it's always nice to get a chance to collaborate in person in an environment like ClueCon. We are always thrilled that FreeSWITCH can play a role in the success of the companies using it. Many great ideas are hatched at ClueCon, and this year should be no different.”

John's presentation will cover how the OnSIP platform, which is distributed across multiple data centers and built on OpenSIPS, FreeSWITCH, SIP.js, OverSIP, and Cassandra, was able to fully integrate WebRTC into the diversity of its core architecture. The presentation will discuss the challenges of designing and implementing WebRTC integration in a distributed manner on The OnSIP Network, all while accommodating legacy SIP devices that do not support WebRTC features such as ICE and DTLS-SRTP.

In addition to John's presentation, other members of OnSIP's engineering team will be on hand to discuss and showcase the work we've done with The OnSIP Network. The conference, which has a relaxed, informal atmosphere, will certainly generate thought provoking ideas, whether they come through the traditional presentations, or off the cuff dialogues with other developers. OnSIP Principal Architect Eric Tamme will offer his own pet project demonstration on SIP-based WebRTC robots that are operated entirely within an internet browser.

"I wanted to give a talk that shows how versatile SIP and WebRTC are together,” Tamme said. “They can be used for many things besides video calls. In my demonstration, I will use SIP to discover and control a network of robots built entirely on SIP, WebRTC with SIP.js, and Node.js."

We're looking forward to ClueCon next week, and we're hoping to see you there. Our team is ready to offer our perspective on the intersection of WebRTC and telephony to the developers who have been pushing the boundaries of telecommunication for the past decade.
