We've Added Support for Cisco and Linksys Phones in Our Provisioning Server

by Leo Zheng

Customers can now use our phone provisioning server to easily set up and receive firmware upgrades for their Cisco and Linksys phones.

Published: May 30, 2012

This month, our team has been hard at work improving our phone provisioning server, boot.onsip.com, in an effort to make things easier on OnSIP users.

At the beginning of this month, we pushed out a firmware update for Polycoms. Two weeks in, we announced that Bria PC and Mac users could provision their software phones in seconds using boot.onsip. We're not even close to finished. Today, on the last day of the month, we're happy to announce that Cisco and Linksys users can now use our provisioning server for firmware upgrades and fast, easy setup.

The phone models supported include the following:

Linksys models: SPA901, SPA921, SPA922, SPA941, SPA942, SPA962

Cisco models: SPA303, SPA501G, SPA502G, SPA504G, SPA508G, SPA509G, SPA525G, SPA525G2

Cisco SPA525G2

How to get started with your Cisco / Linksys devices

Adding your Cisco or Linksys phone to our provisioning server is simple:

  1. Add the Mac ID of your phone in the OnSIP admin portal
  2. Add "http://boot.onsip.com/" to your phone on the Provisioning Tab in your phone's web configuration tool.
  3. Reboot, and you're done.

Note: Firmware upgrades typically take less than 10 minutes, but in some cases, we've seen it take longer than 30. It is recommended that you add phones with outdated firmware to our provisioning server at the end of your business day. Unlike Polycoms, Cisco phones will reboot, and then apply your configuration settings. In some cases, we had to power cycle (unplug and plug the phones back in) the phones after the first reboot to get everything working properly.

Please email any feedback you have to support@onsip.com, and stay tuned for much more in the near future.
