New Year, New Resolutions (Maybe We'll Keep Them This Year!)

by Kevin Bartley

With 2014 upon us, we decided to to ask our coworkers what their professional resolutions are for the new year.

The ancient Babylonians made promises to their gods at the start of each year, and this tradition of resolution making has persisted into the 21st century. With 2014 upon us, we decided to to ask some non-Babylonians (our co-workers!) what their professional resolutions are for the new year. We'll dig this blog up right before 2015 to see if they followed through.

I have some Juniper training coming up. It's more like a bootcamp, because it's only four days long. So in order for that to actually be successful, I'll need to read much of the material before hand.

It's hard to believe that 2014 is here and it's time for New Year's resolutions again. I do need to exercise more, but let's face it, it's too cold to go for a walk outside during my lunch break to burn a few calories. I think a more realistic goal for me this year will be to reduce stress and improve my efficiency at work and home. One thing is for sure, it can be pretty stressful keeping track of all the numbers porting into OnSIP on any given day. We currently have a great system in place, but there is always room for improvement.

To help accomplish my goals, I'll be on the lookout for new programs and apps to enhance my work and make me more productive. I already use Google Drive, but I'm sure it has more to offer than I'm currently using. Evernote is another app that I need to explore more to help me be as organized as possible. Without a doubt, there will be many more productivity apps released in 2014 for me to try.

Sharpening my focus through passage meditation. I take a passage and slowly repeat it to myself for 10 minutes in a meditative setting. This will help me focus on tasks without any outside distractions.

NYU continuing education studies

I resolve to take a class that will add to my contributions here at OnSIP. I took a marketing copywriting class about 2 years ago at NYU School of Continuing and Professional Studies. There, I fine-tuned my writing under the instruction of a talented copywriter at Ogilvy & Mather. In addition, the instructor taught me how to better communicate and frame projects with our creative team— leading to better creative planning and execution for OnSIP. I'd like to take another class in 2014, and I am looking forward to the new perspective it will bring.
