This blog is by Tim, the SIP Maven
Sometimes, when a coworker is out of the office, you don't want to listen to several rings or keep the caller waiting to leave a message. Here's an easy set-up that allows you to drag and drop in incoming call directly to a user's voicemail using my.OnSIP. Put the call to rest by hardly lifting a finger! Here's how you set it up:
-
Create a new user in the admin.onsip.com interface (see below). My new user is called Tim.VM. Because we don't charge for users, this isn't going incur additional costs. Assign an extension one tier above the users standard extension (my extension is 7008, my cell phone has an extension 8008 and now my VM box has the extension 9008).
-
Set up the inbound call preferences for your new user. Make sure the failover destination is your main VM box (See below).
-
Refresh my.OnSIP. Your new user will show up grayed out. People can still drag calls to on to the VM user (See below).
In addition to using the my.OnSIP interface, users can transfer calls directly to VM using the regular phone transfer method.
