OnSIP CEO Mike Oeth recounts his experience at ITEXPO West 2012.

The world's largest communications and technology event, TMC's ITEXPO West, was held last week in Austin, Texas at the Austin Convention Center. Part of the OnSIP team was fortunate enough to not only attend this event but also participate in it. Our very own CEO, Mike Oeth was part of a panel discussion on " Calculating the True ROI with VoIP in the Cloud."

The panel included:

  • Mike Timar, VP, Product Management and Product Development at WVT Communications Group
  • Aron Aicard, Sr. Dir. of Product Management, Fonality
  • Michael Oeth, CEO, Junction Networks
  • The moderator was Dave Michels, CxO of Talking Pointz

Here is Mike's recap of the panel discussion:

The main topic of the panel was calculating the ROI of VoIP, specifically Hosted VoIP. The discussion centered around hard costs and soft costs. Hard cost savings, and thus higher ROI, are cost savings that can be directly measured. Those savings included costs like:

  • Lower IT costs - Hosted PBX means fewer servers to manage
  • Lower power costs - Fewer servers and simpler networks
  • Lower staffing costs - Single receptionist vs. one receptionist per location
  • Lower regulatory costs - e911 handled by upstream provider

Soft costs are costs that are real, but harder to quantify. They include:

  • Employee Satisfaction - Giving employees the ability to work at home and or during off-hours.
  • Higher Productivity - The My.OnSIP Unified Communications app lowers incidents of phone-tag when you call someone and they're already on a call.

All in all, the panel was lively and well moderated by Mr. Michels.

One of the high-points of the show for me was the scale of it. The number of exhibitors had grown by at least 50% from what we saw at previous shows. I also enjoyed the All-Show party, which was hosted by OnSIP and starred a fantastic local Austin band 'The Spazmatics'.

Overall, it was a great event put on by TMC and I'm glad that we could attend, sponsor the party, and participate in the panel.
