OnSIP Customer Testimonial: The Wine Foundry

“Make Wine...The Wine Foundry opens the door to this uncommon opportunity with a state-of-the-art experience.”

Most people's experience with wine is buying your favorite bottle and enjoying a glass (or 2) at home or a restaurant. However, a business out in California’s world-famous wine country enables you to have a much more unique and customized experience with that glass of vino!

The Wine Foundry serves as a comprehensive wine production partner that allows individuals and businesses to create their own premium wines without the massive upfront investment typically required.

The facility is a long-term customer of OnSIP Hosted VoIP. We spoke with Philip Von Burg, Owner of The Wine Foundry (and a fellow wine enthusiast!), to learn about the special opportunities this business offers to the public, as well as his experience using OnSIP for over a decade.

Custom Winemaking in Napa Valley, California

The Wine Foundry has been in business for over 13 years, and we have grown every year. We started making custom wines by the barrel for individuals and small businesses. We now also process wine for a number of noted Napa wineries,” Philip says.

Launched in 2012, their business model makes winemaking accessible to wine enthusiasts, restaurants, retailers, and entrepreneurs. Clients work closely with The Wine Foundry to create their own wines by the barrel. Clients select the grape varieties that they want to use—from grapes grown in prestigious Napa and Sonoma vineyards—and continue working with their Wine Foundry team through wine making, bottling, and labeling. The finished product is a high-quality wine using the same fruit that makes expensive bottles found on the retail market.

As for other parts of the business, Philip mentions: “We also have created two brands of our own (Foundry and Anarchist Wine Co.) and recently launched a non-alcoholic wine based on a new dealcoholizing technology.”

The company also hosts small groups at its winery location for team building and other private events. Participants engage in hands-on activities and workshops that provide learning experiences into any and all aspects of wine production.

Utilizing a VoIP Service to Route Calls Efficiently

The Foundry has two separate locations: a winery and a retail campus in Napa Valley. Philip acquired the business from its previous owners, and those past owners were already using OnSIP hosted VoIP for the company’s phone needs. Philip continued to utilize OnSIP after he took over.

Over the past 15 or so years, The Wine Foundry has used our VoIP service to answer calls and automatically route them to staff members. Philip explains how OnSIP’s routing abilities and options have been an important factor as to why they continue to use our service. “I think the majority of us use our cell phones, and the ability to route calls to cells and manage our own SIP accounts greatly helps and saves us time.”

When asked about the OnSIP desktop app, he notes that he and his staff use it throughout their workdays and “it has been great.” This softphone app—simply a software-based telephone—enables Philip and his team to make and take calls straight from a desktop computer or laptop, no phone required. The app’s interface has a built-in keypad that enables users to dial and call phone numbers. The voicemail section in the app lets users play, download, and delete any messages that were left for them. There is also a Contacts sidebar that displays the presence statuses of other coworkers on the account. Philip and his employees can know with a quick glance who is currently on the phone and who is available to talk.

For the main OnSIP account administrator, the app also has an admin portal where they can create users, purchase phone numbers, set up call features (like auto attendants or call queues), and download monthly invoices and call detail records. The app combines the functionality of a full-feature business phone with the administration tools needed to manage an account. Here is where Philip can make any moves, adds, and changes to his company’s call routing at any time in real time.

He also mentions that OnSIP’s voicemail system is very easy to use. He can quickly set up voicemail to email for his staff members and have any voicemail messages automatically sent to a user’s email address. Staff can then play those messages right from their inbox and expeditiously respond to any missed calls.

When asked about his overall thoughts and experience with the OnSIP VoIP service and support team, he summarizes his feelings in this way:

“Great service, great staff, and no issues for over 10+ years. OnSIP is a pretty simple but dynamic system to use.”
