Leveraging Our Auto Attendant for Thanksgiving Hotline 1-855-8-TURKEY

The holiday season is upon us! Thanksgiving is tomorrow - Time for overflowing dinner tables with turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, and more. For most of us at work today, we're dreaming of what good food and family time tomorrow brings. But for those who are actually planning and cooking the Thanksgiving meal, well, this could be another story.

You might be able to spot the cooks in your office: those who are nervously writing last minute shopping items on a scrap of paper, those who have spent about an hour on google maps (plotting their best driving route to avoid stop and go traffic), those who are skipping lunch to frantically browse "30 minute ______ recipes" on their computers.

Well, today, stressed Thanksgiving chefs, we wanted to help you: OnSIP has created a free, Thanksgiving hotline for all your Thanksgiving meal needs. Want to ensure your turkey isn't dry? Have questions about how to form a good pie crust? Want to leave a Thanksgiving message, possibly venting about your family or too much food consumed? (We won't tell.) Simply dial 1-855-8TURKEY and select what you're attempting to cook. Or, for SIP users, dial sip:menu@turkeyday.onsip.com. We'll forward you on to specialists who will help you make your holiday food a success!

We created the ATE TURKEY hotline in 45 minutes

This took us under 45 minutes to set up. Really. In a nutshell, here was our process:

  1. Found a few food brands who are running recipe hotlines
  2. Created an OnSIP account for the promotion with domain turkeyday.onsip.com
  3. Purchased an inbound number: 1-855-8-TURKEY (get it.... Ate Turkey...)
  4. Created a new resource (external number) for each recipe hotline, e.g. Butterball
  5. Recorded an auto attendant (That's our very own SIP Maven, Tim Cleves)
  6. Created a voicemail box for "Thanksgiving messages"
  7. Pointed the auto attendant's menu options to external numbers and the voicemail box

Happy Thanksgiving!
