Slashgear Recommends OnSIP for Mobile SIP Provider - BYOD

During our weekly company call today, we were happy to notice Slashgear mentioned OnSIP in a blog. Slashgear.com is an esteemed tech blog with honest and clear tech and gadget reviews.

In the blog, "VoIP Roundup: Mobile SIP Providers on Trial", author Ewdison Then discusses his experiences in reviewing BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) VoIP providers. And by the sound of it, OnSIP was a highlight!

Then begins with a discussion on the VoIP movement to mobile devices, a theme we've covered as well in our mobile SIP reviews. He then goes on to discuss his testing environment:

" I’ve been using Acrobits SoftPhone on iPhone, SipDroid on Android phones, and a Linksys PAP2 VoIP adapter. As for my connection, I was using FIOS with 25Mbps download and 25Mbps upload when connected to WiFi or LAN; while mobile, I’m connected to AT&T 3G and T-Mobile 3G. For all my tests, I used the G.711 (uLaw) codec on WiFi /LAN connections and G.729 on 3G. Read on for my real-world test results.

During his review of other VoIP providers, Then notices hurdles such as:

  • Inability to receive instant access to the service
  • Unable to BYOD
  • Poor call quality

Then ends his VoIP provider discussion on OnSIP, but says we're "last but not least." He recognizes that OnSIP is not the cheapest option for an individual consumer, and we honestly agree. (As we often mention, our pricing structure is best for businesses of 5+ people.) However, Then comments that he found OnSIP to be reliable and an overall good experience; he "highly recommends" OnSIP to businesses.

We would like to thank Slashgear for the review. This was a great discovery on a Friday morning!
