How Cool Is This? The Land of Giants

This is a shameless Wow this is freakin cool! blog, inspired by Jason Fried's tweet about The Land of Giants.

Featured on designboom.com, The Land of Giants recently won the 2010 Boston Society of Architects Award. According to designboom.com, The Land of Giants were "originally designed for the Icelandic high voltage electrical pylon competition back in 2008."

On choi + shine architect's website, the designers describe the aim for their architecture was to transform "mundane electrical pylons into statues on the Icelandic landscape by making only small alterations to existing pylon design."

I find these designs both striking, in sheer size, and refreshing, in that they turn a common landscape blemish into artwork. My coworker, Eric, somewhat agrees, adding, "UNTIL THEY ACTUALLY CARRY A COMBINATION OF ELECTRIC CURRENTS AND MYSTIC CURRENTS AND COME ALIVE TO DESTROY US ALL..."

As you can see, it's a good conversation starter for a Monday. And, Eric is a sci fi reader.

I've got my eye on these

I've got my eye on these things. If there's anything I've learned through sci-fi it's that you don't unnecessarily anthropomorphize objects. Because you know in the third reel that they're just going to rise up against the filthy hu-mans and wipe us all out.
