Codec is short for “coder-decoder”. A codec is a program, or an implementation of a algorithm, which converts an analog input signal, like your voice, to a digital signal by sampling it according to the algorithm. The codec can also take a sampled stream from a matching codec, and decode the samples back to a similar analog stream that was input originally.

For some OnSIP customers, the holiday season brings good cheer... and very high call volume. This is especially true for Box-O-Mania, a unique toy company and new OnSIP customer. Impressed that this company made the leap to a new phone service during their busiest order time, we asked Max Tselevich, CEO, a few questions about his business and OnSIP experience.

Describe Box-O-Mania

If your company resells or recommends VoIP services to small and medium businesses, then we want to talk to you. We're going to be exhibiting at the Channel Partners Expo in Las Vegas, March 26th through the 29th, and we're setting up appointments to talk about specific customer situations. On October 26th, Larry Browne, Mike Oeth, and I discussed a recent issue brought to us by a customer: The customer had attempted to dial an OnSIP SIP address from a SIP address of another provider, nonoh, and found that he couldn’t create a call. Since it was founded in 1999, Voxeo has been mainly focused on hosted and on-premise based IVR solutions for customers much larger than ours. Likewise, our business rarely intersected with Voxeo’s. However, in 2009, Voxeo launched a new product called Tropo, a cloud-based application platform that makes it easy for web developers to build voice applications using familiar languages.

mobile VoIPRecently, I came across a competitor’s press release, announcing a new enhancement: VoIP Anywhere. This company, which shall remain unnamed, went on to discuss the groundbreaking ability to have mobile VoIP. After reading through, I found this was not any sort of technology breakthrough; it was a marketing spin on existing technology.

Sycorr builds software for banks. Here's a short description of the company from their own site's 'About us' section:

Banking software is old, it is unstable, and it is far too expensive for the quality of software and corporate service provided. In short, most banking software is just…horrible.
