Time for a new router

Over the weekend, my home router died. Well not "died" died, per se, but began to fail to live up to my needs. It was a Buffalo WHR-HP-G300N, purchased from Amazon on sale. Total mistake. I bought it to use as a home router because the default "stock" firmware was the amazing DD-WRT firmware, probably the best firmware available for use in SOHO routers.

Update: 10:15 AM EDT

The issue appears to have been resolved. Inbound calls should be completing. We are still reviewing.

Update: 10:10 AM EDT

About two dozen inbound phone numbers are currently affected. The OnSIP service itself is unaffected. Outbound calls are unaffected. We have escalated the issue with our upstream carrier and are hoping to provide an ETA shortly.

One of the jobs of the Junction Networks NOC is to test equipment to ascertain if a device will function properly with our service or not. We run through a lot of phones which are mostly successful and a lot of Gateway devices with SIP ALGs which are less successful.

The New York team puts a hurting on our gateway devices. We have expanded from 4 to 13 people in our office with SIP phones, laptops, tablets, ATAs, cell phones, development environments, and even a fully functional phone lab with new end points and routing needs added weekly.

We are currently tracking an outage where customers who appear to be registered are not currently able to receive calls. We are working on the issue as we speak.

Good Morning. We are currently tracking an issue where inbound calls are failing to Junction Networks numbers. Our NOC is tracking the issue and will update as soon as we have more information. Please follow our twitter feed @onsip for up to the minute information as soon as it's available.

This morning we are tracking an issue with calls from the PSTN to our auto-attendants are not being routed to the proper location. Callers will dial an extension as normal to either go to the wrong place or be told "This is not a valid extension."

We believe that we are getting dual DTMF tones from our carrier across some numbers. We are opening a case with them to further investigate the issue. Please keep informed through our blog or twitter feed.

@onsip

This morning we are tracking a possible outage affecting a number of accounts. Symptoms are "unable to receive inbound calls" As we have more information we will update this entry. We have engineering looking into it now.

We are currently tracking an outage where some of our clients are unable to receive inbound calls. We have traced this to an issue with our carrier and are working with them to resolve the issue. We will have further updates as warranted.

Have you ever wanted to give someone in the office the chance to answer the phone before the call routes to your auto-attendant? Thanks to a conversation with Cheryl during a new account set up, I think we’ve come up with a great solution. The old methods were kind of unwieldy, using two lines on your phone or having a user’s no answer destination become the auto attendant thus robbing them of their own voicemail box like the rest of your employees.
