Opera Adds Support for WebRTC

WebRTC users now have a third browser choice when selecting a WebRTC-enabled browser: Opera.

WebRTC users now have a third browser choice when selecting a WebRTC-enabled browser. This is another step forward towards complete WebRTC adoption by the major browsers. Opera has recently changed its underlying rendering engine from Presto to Blink, the same rendering engine that is used by Google Chrome. This engineering decision by Opera, to use the same rendering engine as Chrome, made updating GetOnSIP and Instacall Beta to support Opera painless.

Even though Opera is not the most popular web browser, adding WebRTC support opens to the door for its users to take advantage of real-time communications right in their browser. This also puts pressure on Microsoft and Apple, whose Internet Explorer and Safari browsers still do not support WebRTC. If a small firm like Opera can add WebRTC to its browser, then surely these two multi-billion dollar companies should be technically capable of doing the same.
