On Tuesday I attended the monthly New York Tech Meetup (NYTM). With attendance of over 750 people, and a total membership of over 37000 people, NYTM is the largest meetup in the world.

NYTM offered an evening of live demos from companies developing great technology in New York. Started in 2004 by Scott Heiferman, the founder of Meetup.com, its goal is to facilitate the creation of a sustainable New York technology industry that drives innovation, economic growth, and creates positive, high-impact change for local communities around the world.

At this particular event, there were a multitude of demos in several different categories. In the area of innovation in developing countries was Uncharted Play, the company that developed the Soccket, a soccer ball that contains "a mechanism that rotates and generates kinetic energy so as to provide electricity to produce light." And, in the category of home heating was Radiator Labs, which produces a "radiator controlled by your smartphone".

In the realm of business communications, my main focus was Confide, "an off the record messaging platform that makes it possible to send messages that disappear, for professionals." It uses end to end encryption to ensure that users enjoy maximum security. Security is something that we take very seriously at OnSIP. We also support end to end encryption for voice and video communications to protect our users, including calls using the GetOnSIP WebRTC phone, available right in the browser.

The next New York Tech Meetup is being held on March 4th .
