Last week at the Google NYC office, I attended a fireside chat with Angel investor Gary Vaynerchuk, hosted by Startup Grind.

Startup Grind is a startup community that hosts events across the globe. It hosts networking events, fireside chats, tech talks, and other events in order to support local founders, innovators, educators, and investors. Startup Grind has a unique approach to hosting events. It uses a bottom up approach to supporting the startup community by encouraging locals to create their own Startup Grind chapter in which to organize events. With this approach, it has been able to expand to 50 different cities in over 20 countries.

Gary Vaynerchuk has become renowned in social media spheres due to his early and active participation in the Twitter ecosystem. At this event Gary talked about his experience doing social media brand consulting, directing a wine retail store, and his multi-faceted approach to personal branding and marketing his business.

During his talk, Gary offered helpful advice for people looking to start their own business. He believes that passion is one of the most important things for making a small business become successful. He argues that you should find out what you are passionate about and then make a business on that. He thinks that you don't need large amounts of money to be successful; you just need to put in a lot of time and effort.

Future Startup Grind events can be found on their meetup page.
