Saying Goodbye to Microsoft Response Point

by Nicole Hayward

Microsoft Response Point discontinued as of August 31

Published: June 7, 2010

As you may know, Microsoft Response Point is a telephone system, developed by Microsoft, for small businesses of up to 50 employees. As of August 31, 2010 Microsoft announced they will be discontinuing their Response Point product.

"Despite favorable initial response from customers and channel partners since launch, we have not seen the necessary demand materialize to sustain Response Point as a viable standalone business," said Microsoft.

Initially launched in March 2007, Response Point offered features such as Click-to-Call Dialing, SIP trunking support, Direct-inward-Dial support, call logging, intercom, voice-recognition software, and more.

To achieve this feature set, Response Point required users to buy Microsoft Response Point phones. For those who have bought Aastra Response Point Phones, Aastra has developed a guide to reflash Response Point phones to industry-standard SIP phones. You can download this guide here.

Former Response Point customers who reflash their phones are welcome to set them up with the OnSIP service. Just check out our Generic SIP Phone Configuration guide.

As one of Microsoft Response Point's initial trunking providers, we are sorry to see this announcement. We will keep our eye out for other phone reflashing solutions. Finally, to VoIP resellers looking for another service to offer customers, please check out our Agent Program.
